| Hummer News & Events ![]() Hummer Racing Takes 8th at Dakar Rally The Hummer Racing Team finished 8th (out of the 109 that finished) in the 4,915 mile Dakar Rally. The race covers rough terrain across Europe and Africa, and the Hummer H3, driven by Robby Gordon, finished with a time of 52:57:44 over 15 days of racing. The Dakar Rally has been an event since 1979, and this year, thanks to Hummer Racing, marks the first year an American team (and American manufacturer) took first in a stage. Robby Gordon, along with teammate Andy Grider, won the sixth stage overall. ______________________________________________________________________ Hummer H3 Takes Best Overall The Hummer H3 took Four Wheeler Magazine's Best Overall award. The magazine noted the H3's off-roading skills, thanks to its large tires, great ground clearance, rock protection, and surprising price for its abilities.Other attributes appreciated by Four Wheeler Magazine were the H3's "oh-so-perfect size", and its 20 mpg on the highway. The magazine also awarded the Hummer H2 with its top Fullsize SUV award. ______________________________________________________________________ Hummer and American Red Cross Announce Partnership The GM Foundation has donated $4 million worth of cash and vehicles to the American Red Cross. By 2010, 72 Hummers will be given to the American Red Cross for use in hurricane relief efforts, and on-going services. These will include Hummer H1, H2 and H3 models, as well as two H1 Alpha's to the Emergency Communication Response Vehicle (ECRV) fleet.The vehicles will be equipped with OnStar to help the volunteers and employees using them. GM also donated cash to the group to improve community readiness and emergency response in disaster relief.
